Welcome To The Weekend, Kiddies
It's plus 28 in Gronlid Canada. Feels like plus 30. Wind is NNW at 2km/h. Humidity is 62 percent, and the dewpoint is 21 degrees Celsius. If you hold your breath, you can hear the crops turning.
Summer is finally here. Even here, out in the middle of nowhere.
Cats v. Dogs
I have a window
I have a window on this: Stealth skidoos and the price of milk.
I spent six years working in Canada's north as a geophysical technician. I worked in every province from BC in the west to Ontario in the east with the exception of Saskatchewan.
I worked in the northwest territories and in the high arctic. On Meighan Island the standard joke was that for entertainment on a Saturday night we would walk to the north shore and throw rocks at the Russians.
I never made it to the Yukon. I never made it to Baffin Island.
I never made it to the Nahanni.
But I will bet you that the depth and breadth of my northern experience eclipses harper's by a damnsight.
The rest here.

Good question, Francis. Here's Wally.
You're welcome.

It's good that we still talk from time to time.

Suggest changing Canada's motto from "A Mari Usque Ad Mare" (From Sea to Sea) to "Sufflatus Tamen Morigera" (Disgruntled yet Compliant).
Parental Warning!
Parents! DO NOT VIEW THE FOLLOWING VIDEO!!! It contains "bad words"! And references "sex"!!! And (OMG! RELIGION!!!)
And it's BILLY CONNOLLY, as well!!! (Oh, NO!!!)
The good news is that there are no political references in the clip other than indirect ones, and that children will be able to handle all of the content perfectly well. It contains no information that they are not already well aware of.
But this WILL upset parents. The parental warning is directed not at children, but at parents. If it were a children warning, it would have been labeled as such: "CHILD(al?) WARNING".
Here endeth the rider. Here's Billy on religion. Enjoy!!!
Ted? This is why I left Facebook!!! :-)
What kind of Asian are you?
RECAP!!!

P.S. Congrats to Geroy!!! More to come, I am sure!!!
The Yin and the Yang
Over the past three weekends, I have been to two weddings and a funeral.
Welcome to the weekend, kiddies. It's high summer here in Saskatchewan. Celebrate the yin and the yang.
Here's to you, Erin, the new bride, and here's to you, Chelsea, the new bride, and here's to you, Laverne, a good man gone too soon.
Porn
There's this: "Lovelace"
And then riddle me this: Why is it that I don't know a single man who has read "Fifty Shades of Grey" but any number of my female friends have?
As a species, we are so screwed up.
Extinction, I think, would be a blessing. And a fitting judgement.
Hey ...
... she's from Saskatchewan, okay? And she's Conservative!
(Well, she USED to be. When stephen gave her a lifetime membership in 2009!)
And probably CHRISTIAN!!!
So give her a break. After all, it's not like we ELECTED her. And if we did have elections for the senate, we would STILL have elected her!
Even if she were caught in a hotel room NOW with a live boy or a dead girl, we would STILL elect her!
It's how we roll out here in the West.
No goddam way we're going to vote for JUSTIN! Or for SEPARATISTS! Or forCOMMUNISTSSOCIALISTS!!!
Slash end sarcasm font.
Okay, they're all thieves. To call them white collar criminals would be to do a disservice to white collars. But, as John Stewart says,
"Whaya gon do?"
My suggestion? For starters, abolish the Senate.
Too good ...
... not to share.

According to a Nanos Research poll that FRIENDS released on July 22, 81% of Canadians think the CBC should remain independent from government. Only 12% support the government taking control of the wages and working conditions of CBC's employees.
But harper, as we all know, does not listen to Canadians.
He listens to these guys:
While You Wait For The Rain
This song is the prairies. This song is Saskatchewan. This song is Gronlid, and the people I know. I bring this to you courtesy of pogge, who always informs.

Police are very much under the microscope lately concerning inappropriate use of force. This sort of thing is not helping their cause.

ETA THIS:
Free Rent
I confess to participating in a discussion earlier this summer conducted at some volume wherein I asked the (in retrospect, I suppose, rhetorical) question, "Why would you continue to employ someone who lies to you, steals from you, and drags your name through the mud?"
I was referring, of course, to 'the harper government' (a phrase which I like and continue to use because it differentiates our country and our citizenry - 'Canada' - from our current overlords).
I was not satisfied with the answer I received, by the way. It consisted, in my opinion, of an ad hominem attack of the leaders of the other political parties.
Not only ad hominem, but a non sequitur, to boot.
Anyway, the question stands. And I NOW ask the question specifically referring to Bernard Trottier, an MP, and NOT to Martin Cooke, a Foreign Service Officer who has written the open letter " Where Is This Free Rent Of Which You Speak?"
Canada: a thuggish petrostate
Message To CanadiansMore here.
"People who are familiar with Monbiot will not be surprised to learn that he is not a fan of the oil sands industry, and his message to Canadians is particularly trenchant, writing that Canada is "one of the world's most beautiful and sophisticated nations," but that it is being "ransacked by barbarians."
In his conversation with The Sunday Edition's Laura Lynch, he didn't back away from that kind of rhetoric.
"At the moment, this highly cultured, sophisticated, wonderful nation seems to be descending into a thuggish petro-state which appears to be governed by the tar patch, and its politics seem to suffer from the oil curse, as so many countries suffer from when they have found big reserves of fossil fuels. And wildlife has suffered greatly as a result, natural resources of all kinds are suffering greatly, and so are those who love nature."

Big tip o' the hat to my buddy Ken for this one!
