Crime Mapping

Want to know how many crimes were committed in your neighbourhood last night, or any night?

A new mapping tool the Saskatoon Police Service recently added to its website lets you do that.

Attack Ads

Here it is, folks. Politics in the 20th and 21st century. These are the ads you will see on reality TV. Here you will see politicians, of all stripes, appealing to the base.

The stupid. The "hard of thinking".

It has been said that people get the government they deserve.

Hard to disagree with that when you look back over the last thirty or forty years in Canada ...

It seems that the winning formula is the best approach to the most stupid among us. About thirty percent of us, it seems.

Democracy, it seems, can best be defined as a dictatorship of the minority.

Hard to take, when the minority is stupid ...

Hi Ho

Here we go again. Bill-o stoking the fires of Islamophobia. Oblivious, it seems, to the every-action-has-an-equal-and-opposite law of physics, which results in Christianophobia.

Apparently, setting off bombs at an American sporting event=bad, but dropping bombs from drones on children gathering firewood, or an Afghan wedding=democracy and freedom.

Harper, of course, knows exactly on which side HIS bread is buttered.

And so it goes.

Agh.

Kurt Vonnegut and George Carlin are looking down and are no doubt HIGHLY amused!

Welcome To The Weekend, Kiddies!

It's Friday. You made it. Good for you! Looks like a beautiful spring weekend coming up here in Saskatchewan Canada. High time, I'd say, and highly welcome.

Take your shoes off. Take your SOCKS off. Pour yourself something selfish, be that CR&coke, Southern Comfort, a Pilsner, or Green Tea.

It's been a tough week.

If you can, kick back. Dance in the kitchen. Turn up the volume.

Here's to Canadian music.

Here's to Serena Ryder.

Here's to Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, and here's to CBC.

Here's to my old Facebook friend John Leclair, who first drew this video to my attention.

Here's to spring in Saskatchewan, here's to all the black sheep, and here's to you.

Welcome to the weekend, kiddies. Enjoy.

Here we go again.

Protests in Nova Scotia following institutional failure to protect female teen assault victim

It's not often that I find myself on the side of politicians of ANY colour or stripe, but I am seriously weary of young kids killing themselves due to the posting of hateful, salacious posts on social media, be that Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or whatever.

I realize that these are kids who are posting this. But we have lost far more kids to internet bullying than we have to terrorism.

Apparently, terrorism is sexier than teen suicide.

We need our politicians to step up. And do something other than a "heartfelt talk" photo op.

This shit needs to stop.

Water almost never looks quite like water when it's rendered: there a lot of variables involved with a fluid splashing around, after all. But this virtual water looks pretty great.

The team at PhysXInfo made the software, called Position Based Fluids, that you see here. The simulation is running in real-time on a cheap graphics card, which makes the realistic flow of water impressive on its own. But the real treat is the aquarium-breaking at the end of the video, which must be complicated to simulate. It's enough to get gamers or special effects hounds salivating.

Dear Internet

Please don't send me any more links to sites that I can't access because I do not live south of the Medicine Line.

If you are smart enough to know that I don't live in the States, you are smart enough to NOT send me the link. No?

I'm looking at YOU, Daily Show.

Signed,

Aqui

There are some things that I do not miss about Facebook. Too many to list here (without seeming to be the cranky old fart that I actually am).

But there are some things - and, more importantly, some PEOPLE - that I DO miss. Luckily, Michael, Antonia, pogge, and Sooey can be found elsewhere.

Go. Go see. Go visit. I promise they will not disappoint.

They are among my pantheon of heroes.

Should you comment, tell them I said "hi", and convey my kindest regards.

There are many others, too, that I miss. But I figure that sooner or later they will start up a blog. Or will stumble upon Zag, and will send me an owl ...

Canada Goes Rogue

"Maniacal front-line cuts have killed PFRA (the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration), which had world-class Canadian brainpower on soil and water conservation. Conservatives vandalized community pastures, the prairie tree farm and Experimental Lakes Area. Now Canada is the only country in the world sneaking out the back door on the UN Convention Against Drought."

On Mass Murder

"If we quietly accept this burgeoning hatred, we are complicit in it. We are, of course, 'good Canadians' who would never dream of committing atrocities ourselves."

"We."

"We" Canadians are of course complicit. "We" not only elected these ghouls in, "we" re-elected them and "we" gave them a majority!

And "we" "good Canadians" for the most part have no idea what our elected representatives are doing. "We" are too busy watching hockey. Or reality TV. Or playing the VLT's. "We" are either willfully ignorant, or "we" are in fact, hateful, greedy, misogynistic racists.

"We" are also Harper's base. "Good Canadians", all. All "honourable men".

Sorry.

Tony, Tony, Tony ...

As I once remarked to my dear friend, Lord Vanscoy (sez he, shameless namedropping) - By god, it takes a swine to show you where the truffles are.

(Okay, not strictly true. I said it to the world at large, but it was His Lordship who harkened with a grin.)

Anyway. I met Tony once, you know. Back when I was a student at the U of S. At a Young Liberals convention.

He was as slimy then as he is now.

Not that I am any better. This is not about casting stones. As Henry Fielding said, "We are all of us as God made us, and many of us, much worse". But I, at least, HAVE since disavowed any attachment to ANY political party, and I have closed ALL of my offshore accounts.

Whereupon, having said that, I draw myself up to my full height, tilt my head back, and blink.

Go ahead.

Google it.

P.S. Karma's a bitch, and Schadenfreude is sweet.

Google that, too.

This is for the cretins howling outside the gates. Those who voted for the harpercons and who are jonesing for the blood of those in their employ.

Not for the blood of the politicians, of course. For the blood of those who actually serve them. Those fat and bloated bureaucrats!

Oops. Sorry. Forgot that harpercon voters can't read. Let alone think.

Not that I'm playing favourites. When it comes to politicians, I am reminded of the words of Henry Ford, when he said "You can have any colour as long as it's black.".

How to fix it? NO idea, other than voting the incumbent bandits out every four or five years and getting in another bunch of bandits.

Leave them in any longer than that, and they think that we actually like them.

Yeah, I know. Negative.

Unfriend me.
